Thanks for stopping by my home away from home! My name is Kaylin. Raised all over the West Coast, happily reside in Portland, Oregon. I enjoy creating in the kitchen and late-night ice-cream consumption. I constantly thinking about tacos, tropical happy hours, creating new ice cream flavors, and obsessing over corgis.
It definitely wasn’t a family member who inspired me to cook, was not raised with all homemade meals, except a damn good meatloaf from mom. One of my earliest admiration of the culinary world was watching Good Eats by Alton Brown (I call him my father figure). I’d pretend to sleep until mom went to bed late at night when I was 9. I had a worn-out copy of Anthony Bourdain’s “Kitchen Confidential” book as well as Gordon Ramsay’s biography way before the Hell’s Kitchen days. I always thought the food was the most fascinating thing and decided to pursue it by teaching myself.
After high school, I went straight to work in kitchens, I worked my way up and sought after multiple cuisines such as Thai, Scandinavian, Italian, and many more restaurants. I always wanted to work in bakeries but it was very difficult to get into. I was able to do both cooking and baking full time and it made me understand all the hard work that goes in any kitchen. Very appreciated all the places I could work in, and fond of all the skills I’ve picked up along the way.
Noms & Yums is a place to document what all the good appetites. Whether it be simple or I’m feeling as extra as guacamole (avocado fans welcome!).
There is no greater joy than to share a delicious meal with good company. I love to host and share my culinary creativity with others. Nothing makes me happier than seeing people enjoy a meal I make for them!
FOOD IS MY PASSION. I TAUGHT MYSELF THE ESSENTIALS BECAUSE NO ONE AROUND ME DID.
Exploring nearby restaurants and reading the latest cookbooks inspire me to concoct an all-new manner of ideas. Learning more about different cuisines I can have for dinner, what can (and CAN NOT) go into ice cream. How do we like our cocktails? Shaken? Stirred? Frozen? There’s always something to explore.
- Creating a new spin on favorite desserts.
- Making classic dishes, but with a twist.
- Attempt to explore something new that we never even thought to try.
